National Indigenous Peoples Day civic Ceremony

National Indigenous Peoples Day

The sunrise ceremony and civic ceremony will mark this special day. Activities will include singing and drumming with Mohawk elders, the lighting of the sacred fire, and the tobacco ceremony. Ceremonial speeches will be given by community representatives.

Join us in the front of the Montréal Science Centre. 

  • 11:45 a.m.: Drumming to announce the start of the celebrations

    12:00 p.m.: Start of the celebrations—drumming and dancing 

    12:30 p.m.: Lighting of the fire 

    12:45 p.m.: Speeches and recognition of the elders

    2:00 PM: Procession along the Old Port promenade 

    2:30 PM: Festivities at Place Royale (drum performance by the Mohawk elder and other artists)
