HMCS Donnacona and veterans’ groups will commemorate the Canadian sailors and merchant marines who served and died during Battle of the Atlantic at the Old Port Clock Tower. This event is open to the public and includes a military parade, wreath-laying, and an artillery salute.

On the first Sunday in May, members and veterans of the Royal Canadian Navy commemorate those who served and those who were lost during the Battle of the Atlantic, the longest battle of the Second World War. For 2075 days, from 1939-1945, Canadian sailors and merchant marines fought Axis submarines, ships, and aircraft as well as the harsh conditions of the Atlantic to ensure the safety of vital convoys crossing the ocean.

The ship’s company of HMCS Donnacona, Montreal’s Naval Reserve Division, members of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Naval Association of Canada, and the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Victory will parade at the base of the Old Port Clock Tower. Honoured guests will place wreaths of remembrance. A moment of silence and an artillery salute will take place at 11:30 a.m.
